The acting is alright, I can't say I recognise anyone from the cast though. At least it does the gore well because the same can't be said for much else.
The first Wrong Turn wasn't bad, which was surprising as slasher-horror films tend to be very dull and formulaic. However, just by the fact that there was a sequel you knew the producers were now just going to churn out predictable, formulaic sequels that lived off the success of the first film.
Wrong Turn 2 and 3 proved this theory right, being pretty dull and formulaic. Wrong Turn 4 is even worse than the previous two, and even more predictable. This movie somewhat makes me angry for several reasons. First off, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Wrong Turn-series and second of all, it's being totally unoriginal! I wouldn't at all be surprised if this movie its script got pulled off from the shelve somewhere and got relabeled as "Wrong Turn 4" to cash in on it, even while it originally was written as a totally unrelated movie, to the the Wrong Turn-series.
This movie really has absolutely nothing to do with any of the 3 previous movies, though it supposedly is still featuring the same cannibal family, consisting out of inbreds, who all look like Jake Busey by the way. But the settings are all wrong. Really, a Wrong Turn movie should always be set inside of the forest I feel. But no, they thought an old abandoned asylum would be a far better setting for the movie this time.
But why really? There are so many modern movies, that are just like this one, out there already, that use similar type of settings and also a similar concept.
Thing they also all seem to have in common is that none of them are all that great. No, this movie isn't ever really trying to be something new or original. It makes this a very redundant genre movie, that not even the lovers of it will be very pleased with.
Sure, there is gore but nothing all that spectacular or surprising really. As is this whole movie; nothing spectacular or surprising.
It's a very typical and therefore also very predictable genre movie, that does absolutely nothing to attempt to become an above average one. It's just one of those movies in which a bunch of annoying, partying teenagers gets stuck at a place and are all getting killed one by one. It never has any tension or suspense to it because the movie obviously has no idea how to handle this. The most positive thing I can say about this movie is that it's not the worst modern genre example I have seen but still, you are far better off skipping it.
Somewhat of an improvement over part 3 Wizard-8 27 October I thought that "Wrong Turn 3" was the weakest entry of the series, so my hopes weren't high for this next entry. Surprisingly, things are somewhat improved for this prequel. The various location the movie was shot in Canada look a lot better, the gore is mostly old school makeup which looks a lot better than CGI gore , the protagonists are somewhat smarter than you usually get in a movie like this, and there are not one but two lesbian love sequences.
Unfortunately, while the above stuff makes this an improvement over part 3, there are still a number of problems. Most of these problems are the script's BIG plot holes. How did the escaped hillbillies stay hidden until the authorities they HAD to have come eventually! Why didn't the authorities empty the hospital of its furniture and equipment when they closed the place? If one of the hillbillies drives a truck around, why has no one noticed him?
How is there still fuel in the abandoned hospital's generator after almost 20 years have passed? How do the hillbillies know how to drive snowmobiles? Why did the hillbillies, between this movie and the events in the first entry, move from the hospital into deep in the woods and how?
These and other questions are never answered. If you can get past those unanswered questions, I guess you have a standard slasher movie with the occasional novel touch. It's nothing to actively seek out for most viewers. But if you liked the previous movies and want to see more of the same, you might get some enjoyment from this prequel. Getting stranded in a freak snowstorm, a group of friends seeking shelter in a supposedly-abandoned asylum find it still inhabited by cannibalistic inmates housed there years ago hunting them down one- by-one and must find a way of getting away from the vicious killers.
This was a rather fun and entertaining entry in the series which has a lot to like about it. One of the better parts here is with it managing to feature even more of the usual elements found in the last entries which comes off as a rather coherent connection to become that much more entertaining. That is mostly brought along by the film's great setting, as the large, cavernous structure with it's long, looming hallways, tight quarters and hidden rooms are used to good effect in both creating effective atmospheric locations and perfect areas for them to display their cruel tactics.
It's also helped along by the raging storm and isolated nature while also taking into account the film's backstory about how they got freed and are now roaming the hospital grounds which is a great introductory scene of them running loose and leading the other inmates through their takeover of the hospital. When that leads into the later action scenes of them inside the building, there's quite a bit of fun on display with the stalking and hunting which are spread nicely throughout this, from the first walk-through where they see the shadows running throughout the hallways, the encounter in the kitchen where they first come across the family carving up their friend which starts in on the fun noose trap in the main hall and the resulting chases down into the basement as well as the different offices in the upper floors.
The later scenes here, with the attack on the family who are gorging on their friend and leading into the first trap scene down in their jail cell is quite fun and the big finale is a series of chases through the main levels of the building and then outside into the surrounding woods which gives this all quite a bit of fun.
All of these great action scenes are given a great sense of fun here as the gore and kills here are both over- the-top here, featuring numerous amounts of splatter and carnage which allow the film to be pretty brutal at times with some innovative torturing methods all of which give this one here a lot to like. While these here are the positives, it does have a few minor elements wrong with it, starting with the absolutely ludicrous decision-making by the characters which puts them into dangerous situations for that reason only, and it does hurt this one.
From failing to leave once they know they're friends are missing and have bloodied equipment laying around and then have them trapped yet decide not to do anything which lets them come back later just lets this one feel so dragged out because their lack of rationale and common sense in the situation simply keeps them in trouble. As well, it's finale does seem to run on forever and get old after a while since it's not really all that clear what's going on with all the endless running around the same locations in the snow-covered woodlands surrounding the asylum, and it seems somewhat repetitive to keep going back to that same well of attack.
Still, this here is a blast and quite enjoyable. FlashCallahan 6 November Follows a group of friends that decide to go snowmobiling during their winter break. They make a "wrong turn", getting lost in a storm, and seek shelter in an abandoned sanatorium. They are completely isolated by the storm and are thankful they can get out of the elements. But the sanatorium has a troubled past, and some of its former patients still reside there and are not happy about the intrusion.
In a deadly game of cat and mouse, the college kids must fight to survive the night The title is misleading, I was expecting some sort of origin story of how the killers came about, but no, it's another stalk and slash movie which just takes a good movies name and tarnishes it. I don't know whether these are supposed to be college kids, because one of them looks at least forty, and the acting is truly horrific.
There should be some humour in this, just like the second movie, to make it more palatable, but the director must think that we want to see women in bed for the majority of the first act and then just put really bad effects in the mix.
It's devoid of any tension and frights, and it's nothing you haven't seen before, and it turns out to be quite a bad film. Naturally with those kind of flicks you watch it for the horror and not for an ingenious storyline. You don't need to have seen the other parts in this franchise. It's all explained before the opening credits. Most of the actors have been seen in other horrors line Wishmaster or Saw. So they do know what they have to do.
Being stupid and being slaughtered. But did I enjoyed it. As a buff you expect gratuitous nudity and red stuff and here in part 4 you get a lot of that. Before the opening credits the gore is already available. And if you can't stand it because it's over the top then turn it off otherwise just move further. The biggest joke for me in that gory piece was the score. I guess they did it on purpose to chose Strauss once the deformed break out Strauss was also used in the rape scene in Clockwork Orange.
Then you get the opening credits, Time to inhale some air after the mayhem. But just after the opening credits you have a naked lesbian couple licking each other and another couple making love. Gratuitous nudity. It's interrupted by another girl saying it's time to start the snow trip. Just listen when one of them says, i guess we have taken a wrong turn. From there on the movie goes deeper into the friends and shows use how they make fun with each other. After 30 minutes in the flick night time falls and without knowing the deformed hillbilly family is watching them.
From there on the gore comes back in until the final. I've said it before, you don't go for the story because there are some stupid things when the girls are killing someone you know who he is without thinking and you just can't take it all too seriously. I won't spoil it but just watch the fondue scene. What a big joke that is. I loved it and it's going more and more into the way Feast went. And what a great ending. There's a laugh now and then intended or not and I didn't regret it to make a wrong turn.
HumanoidOfFlesh 1 November A group of teenagers get pummeled by a massive blizzard, get lost and end up in an old sanitarium where disfigured cannibalistic mutants live and stalk for their prey. A couple of bare breasts is a nice touch. It was one of those movies that was so outrageous it was just a good time. The film really didn't work, it had some good gore effects, but the characters were lacking and to be honest the villains are not that scary. I mean, inbred cannibals are not exactly high on the boogeyman lists.
Besides, we already had Deliverance, wasn't that enough touch on crazy inbreeds? You think the characters were horrible in the third film, just wait till you hear about these morons. In at the Glenville Sanatorium, Dr. Before they leave, the cannibals escape and set the other patients free in the hospital.
The cannibals then torture and murder Dr. In the future, Kenia, Sara and Bridget along with their friends Claire, boyfriend Kyle, Jenna boyfriend Vincent, Lauren, and boyfriend Daniel are going snowmobiling, heading to Kenia's boyfriend Porter's cabin in the mountains.
Before they get there, they get lost in the snowstorm forcing them to find shelter in the abandoned Glenville Sanatorium. Little do they know, the three cannibals are hiding out in the sanatorium and murdering trespassers. I guess the inbreeds may be inept of any rational thought but can manage to keep a hospital going?
Not only that, but how is it the doctor victims they killed earlier, their families never bothered looking for them at their work? OK, let's give the suspension of disbelief.
So then what do our group of protagonists decide to do in their time of trying to figure a way to get back to safety? Let's smoke weed, get drunk and have a ton of sex! I do not know around her throat and as everyone turns around in horror, her boyfriend grabs her by the feet trying to pull her down while there's barbed wire around her neck and acts totally surprised when her blood is pouring down on him and she gets decapitated.
Then what good friends this guy has, they run off and leave him! All we needed was the Benny Hill music playing during this scene, it would've been much better. Go and save him?
No, let's have a 10 minute conversation first and vote and then when going to go save him, let's pause every five seconds to let his flesh get eaten even more. Then when they do find him, let's make a fondue joke about it and surprise, he dies because of your time management skills!
